At long last, it is time to introduce our new family member - Mikka!
She is absolutely ADORABLE and we are already wrapped around her little paws! I can't believe it's been over a month since we got her, but in other ways, it's like she's always been here. She is perfect for us - she loves to play, loves to cuddle, and is the perfect size.
My favorite thing she does by far is cuddle - she loves to be on my lap whenever possible - either curled up in a ball or laying out on her side or back. Or, if we're in bed, she'll get under the covers and curl up right next to my stomach or behind my knees.
She comes into my office every day with me and I'm so glad that my employer is cool with that. It really brightens my day to look down on the floor and see her hanging out. Whenever I walk around the office, she's right on my heels. One of my friends at work has taken to calling her my demon ("The Golden Compass" reference).
She already has many nicknames from us. She loves playing with her rope, chewing on not only her treats but also whatever random small thing she can find like staples, push pins, etc. Seriously, she's like a toddler! How does she pick the things that could really hurt her to chew on?
She's also hilarious to watch eat. Instead of staying by her bowl until the food is gone, she grabs a mouthful, takes it a few paces from her bowl, drops the food on the ground, then proceeds to eat it a piece at a time. Silly girl!
If you can't already tell from my oozing, I'm so happy with her! We both are! Although she's certainly not human, she's certainly helped to fill a void in our little family. Hopefully she won't get too jealous when the kiddos start to arrive!
Our first family picture - the first weekend we had her.
Already giving Adam kisses - her favorite game is to try and lick his face as much as possible.
Within the first two weeks of having her, she had to don the cone of shame. She got a sore on her belly and we had to wrap her foot, take medicine and wear the cone to keep from irritating it. Thank goodness that is over with! One evening while I was away and Adam was watching her, she was so sad and vexed with the whole situation that she turned toward the back of the couch and sat without moving for about an hour. And then, she started head-butting Adam's leg...Just a little taste of an almost nightly routine with Mikka and Adam...
